Services

Initial meetings can be scheduled in-person, or on Zoom, at mutually convenient dates and times.

I provide advocacy and consultation to families on all aspects of Special Education and 504 Plans in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.

What do we do?

  • I will read all current, relevant paperwork on your child: IEP, 504 Plan, independent and school-based evaluations, progress reports, and diagnoses.
  • I will meet with you and your child to discuss what’s working and what is not.
  • We will decide what your child needs for services and support.
  • You and I, the current school staff, outside consultants and evaluators will come to agreement as a team. We will discuss intelligent next steps.
  • I will monitor all agreements for compliance throughout the school year.
  • You will keep me informed as to changes, surprises, progress or lack of progress.
  • I will provide you with a suggested agenda for each school meeting.
  • I will keep in touch with regular and Special Education teachers, therapists and administrators on a regular basis.

How do we do it?

  • Regular, consistent communication between you and the school staff helps to maintain accurate information. You can’t have too much information!
  • Progress review meetings at least twice a year, and more often as needed, will be scheduled at mutually convenient times.
  • I clarify and review IEPs and 504 plans and suggest important changes.
  • I will schedule mediation when necessary and when agreed to by the Director of Special Education.
  • I will suggest additional evaluations that may be needed this year and in the future.

My wife and I found Barbara’s calm demeanor and her wonderful ability to keep us from losing our wits at school meetings very useful. She keeps current with the laws and regulations governing Special Education and she helped our daughter figure out how to ask for the help she needed in school. Overall, we feel Barbara’s advocacy made a huge difference in the way the school system viewed us. They were more respectful of us as parents once we brought Barbara in as our advocate.
